Before you start
- Sign in to the intended workspace with placement creation access (supply.write), such as the tenant_admin or tenant_editor role.
- Use an active publisher in the same workspace. This walkthrough continues with Harbor News from Create your first publisher; select your own publisher when following along.
- Choose a placement name and an unused public ID. Confirm that this slot is for video on the web before selecting its delivery channel and media.
Step-by-step guide
-
Open Supply, then Placements
Choose Supply in the sidebar, then open Placements. Confirm the workspace and select New placement. If the console asks for a publisher first, create one before continuing.
-
Choose the publisher and placement identity
Select Harbor News in the Publisher picker. Enter Homepage preroll for Name and homepage-preroll for Public id. Check the owner and public ID before moving on; the field guide below shows each value used in the recording.
- Publisher
Harbor News - Select the existing publisher that owns this inventory. The publisher must be active and in the same workspace.
- Name
Homepage preroll - A readable name for the inventory slot.
- Public id
homepage-preroll - The stable ID embedded in ad tags and VAST URLs for this slot. Choose it carefully; it is read-only on the saved placement's Setup tab.
- Delivery
Web - The channel this placement serves. It appears as Channel on the saved placement's Setup tab and cannot be changed there.
- Media
Video - The creative media type expected for this slot. Select Video explicitly instead of leaving the media type unset.
- Publisher
-
Choose Web delivery and Video media
Set Delivery to Web and Media to Video. Leave the other optional settings unchanged for this walkthrough. Floor CPM, QPS limit, Share of voice, and Warm pool video are separate settings to configure for your inventory's needs.
-
Create and open the placement
Review the five fields, then select Create and open. Wait for the placement detail page. If you select Create instead, find the new placement in the list and use its Open action.
-
Check Setup, then reload
On the Setup tab, check Name, Public id, Channel, Media, and Publisher. Confirm that Homepage preroll belongs to Harbor News and uses Web and Video. Check the ACTIVE status, reload the page, and confirm the same identity, owner, and format remain saved.
Check the saved settings
- The placement has the intended name and public ID in the correct workspace.
- The owning publisher is Harbor News, Channel is Web, and Media is Video.
- The placement is ACTIVE, and the same settings remain after reloading the detail page.
ACTIVE describes the placement record. A saved placement still needs a serving domain, demand, and a player or other integration before you can verify ad delivery.
Troubleshooting
My publisher is missing from the picker.
Check that you are in the right workspace and that the publisher exists and is active there. Create the publisher first if needed, then reopen the placement form and select it.
I cannot create a placement, or the save is forbidden.
Ask a workspace administrator to check your role and supply.write permission. A read-only role can inspect inventory without being able to create it.
The public ID is already used, or the save failed.
Read the error shown by the console. Before trying again, refresh Placements and search for the public ID in case the first request succeeded. Use an unused ID for a new placement, and check that the selected publisher is still active in the same workspace.
Why does Delivery become Channel?
Delivery is the label on the create form; Channel is the label on the Setup tab. Both describe the same setting. Web in the console corresponds to WEB in the API, and Video corresponds to VIDEO.
Does ACTIVE mean ads are serving?
ACTIVE describes the placement record. This walkthrough verifies saved inventory settings. It does not configure demand or send an ad request; continue the publisher setup guide to connect those pieces and verify delivery.
