Create your first publisher

A publisher identifies who owns your inventory and groups their placements. Add one in the console, choose its public ID, and check the saved record before creating ad slots.

Before you start

  • Sign in to an existing workspace with publisher creation access (supply.write), such as the tenant_admin or tenant_editor role.
  • Check that you are in the intended workspace before creating anything. This walkthrough saves a real publisher record in that workspace.
  • Choose a publisher name and an unused public ID. The examples below use fictional data; use your own publisher identity when following along.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Open Supply, then Publishers

    In the console, choose Supply in the sidebar, then open Publishers. Confirm the workspace before continuing.

  2. Enter the publisher's identity

    Select New publisher to open the form. An empty list also offers Create publisher. Enter the Name and Public ID using the field guide below. Add the optional Domain if you have the publisher's primary hostname.

    Name Harbor News
    A readable name for the publisher.
    Public ID harbor-news
    A stable external ID used in tags and ads.txt. Use letters, numbers, dashes, or underscores, starting with a letter or number. It cannot be edited after creation.
    Domain (optional) news.example
    The primary publisher hostname used for ads.txt and sellers.json identity. Enter your real hostname for your own publisher; news.example is demonstration data.

  3. Create the publisher

    Check the public ID carefully, then select Create in the form. Wait for the success notification and the new publisher row. If you choose Create and open instead, the console takes you straight to the detail page.

  4. Check the saved record

    Find Harbor News in the list and check its public ID and ACTIVE status. Use the row's Open action to open the publisher. On the detail page, check the name, public ID, and domain against the values you entered.

  5. Reload to verify it saved

    Reload the publisher detail page. The same publisher identity and status should still be present. You now have the publisher record that will own its placements.

Check the saved settings

  • The publisher appears in the intended workspace with the chosen name and public ID.
  • The publisher's status is ACTIVE and the optional domain matches your entry.
  • Reloading the detail page preserves the saved record.

A publisher is the owner of inventory. Creating it is the first step toward adding a placement; ACTIVE alone does not mean an ad is serving.

If you get stuck

Troubleshooting

I cannot see Create, or the save is forbidden.

Check the selected workspace and your role. Ask a workspace administrator for publisher creation access. A read-only role can inspect a publisher without being able to create one.

The public ID is rejected or already exists.

Start with a letter or number and use only letters, numbers, dashes, or underscores. Search the existing publishers before trying another unused ID. A public ID is fixed after creation; changing the display name does not change it.

The request failed or the new row is missing.

Read the error shown by the console. Before submitting again, refresh the list and search for the public ID to see whether the first attempt saved. Check the workspace, filters, and network connection. If the error persists, share the error details with your workspace administrator.

Does ACTIVE mean ads are serving?

ACTIVE describes the publisher record. Ad delivery also needs a placement, a serving domain, demand, and an integration. Continue with the publisher getting-started guide to configure those pieces and verify a request.

Give your publisher a placement

Define an ad slot that a video player can request ads for. Create a web video placement under your publisher, choose its identity and format, and check the saved record.
